Business Day XXXVI Contributes to Student Professional Development

Eberly Business Hall of Distinction inductees with Dean Camp and President DriscollFour Eberly College of Business alumni were inducted into the 2014 Business Hall of Distinction at the 36th annual Charles B. Stevenson Memorial Business Day on April 1 in the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex.

The first 2014 Business Hall of Distinction inductee was Patricia Darnley ’81, who is president and CEO of Gateway Health Plan, a $1.6-billion managed care organization in Pittsburgh. Darnley has also worked for UPMC Health Plan and Highmark.

Chuck Leyh ’80 is chairman, president, and CEO of Enterprise Bank, a bank created to help small businesses with their funding needs. In addition to working at the bank, Leyh is a CPA and partner at the Kinol, Sharie, Leyh & Associates with more than 30 years of experience in accounting.

Daniel Simoni ’94 is a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP as well as the leader of the Houston marketplace, where he is responsible for managing an approximately $100-million practice.

Bill Wagner ’75 is the chairman, president, and CEO of Northwest Bancshares, Inc. and Northwest Savings Bank, one of Forbes’ 100 Most Trustworthy Companies in 2009 and 2012. Before working at Northwest Bancshares, Wagner was a VP of Finance and CFO of Fidelity Savings Association, business manager at St. Mary’s Area School District, and senior accountant at KPMG.   

“Our business leaders and Hall of Distinction members have served as role models and mentors for our students and our students have appreciated the opportunity to interact with them at this event," said Assistant Dean of Administration Cyndy Strittmatter.

Attendees at Business Day 2014More than 700 Eberly College of Business students attended the event, which began with departmental meetings from 9:00–10:30 a.m. and continued with a networking session with 50 business leaders and students from 10:30–11:45.

Strittmatter added that Business Day is Eberly’s premier annual professional development and networking event.

“We are very fortunate to have an engaged business advisory council consisting of alumni and other business professionals,” Strittmatter said. “They are truly interested in the professional growth of our students.”

Eberly students were then recognized for their achievements and participation in Eberly’s more than 15 professional student organizations.

Business Day continued with the Business Hall of Distinction Luncheon, where the four Eberly alumni were recognized.

The day concluded with a Business Advisory Council meeting, which focused on review and discussion pertaining to the college’s mission statement and vision statement.
