Secondary Science Education Students Present Teacher Work Sample Projects

Five secondary science education students presented research on student learning at the College of Natural Science and Mathematics (NSM) Women in Mathematics, Science, and Technology (WMST) and Undergraduate Scholars Forum Activities on March 30 and April 1, 2014. Currently completing their student teaching experience at area high schools, these science educators presented posters summarizing research on the impact of teaching strategies on student learning.

Laura Delozier (Biology Education), supervised by Anne Simmons and Holly Travis, won the award for Best Teacher Work Sample Poster at the WMST event. The students also had an opportunity to meet and talk with IUP President Michael Driscoll and NSM Dean Deanne Snavely about their research projects.

Science education students Laura Delozier (Biology Education), Rebecca Smith (Earth and Space Science Education), Elizabeth Patterson (Biology Education), Catherine Krygeris (Biology Education), and Samantha Thompson (Biology Education) were also active in the recruitment of high school students, teachers, and parents who came for tours of research labs in the college. Special thanks go to Cuong Diep (and graduate student Paul Kelly), Vida Irani (and graduate student Dan Peles), Yu-Ju Kuo (and graduate student Margo Payne MacKenzie), Charles Lake, Robert Major, and Thomas Simmons (and undergraduate student James Shea) for sharing their interesting research projects with these visitors.
