Musical energy flows non-stop from the heart of the young phenom, Grace Kelly. Lincoln Center artistic director Wynton Marsalis was so impressed with Kelly’s three-night appearance as guest of his Jazz Orchestra that he invited her to join the ensemble at the Kennedy Center’s Eisenhower Theater.

For its finale to this season’s Ovations! series, the Lively Arts at Indiana University of Pennsylvania will feature renowned musician, singer, and songwriter Grace Kelly. This one-night-only event will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. in Fisher Auditorium.

For the Indiana concert, Kelly will be joined by a quartet of jazz musicians who will fill Gorell Recital Hall with an electric mix of jazz standards and original work.

Having appeared with such greats as Wynton Marsalis and Harry Connick, Jr., it became clear that musical energy flows nonstop from the heart of this young saxophone-playing, singing, and songwriting phenomenon. Marsalis was so impressed with Kelly’s three-night stand as guest of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra that he invited her to join the ensemble at the Kennedy Center’s Eisenhower Theater in Washington, D.C. for Barack Obama’s Inauguration Celebration.

Since age 12, Kelly has led over 600 concerts at prominent venues such as the Hollywood Bowl, Montreal Jazz Festival, Newport Jazz Festival, and Carnegie Hall. Kelly recently graduated Boston’s Berklee College of Music, having entered at age 16, and has taught residency workshops at Berklee since 2012.

After releasing eight full-length albums, Kelly debuted her first single, “Sweet Sweet Baby,” which made it to #10 on the Billboard Magazine Smooth Jazz Song chart. On Live at Scullers, her newest release, Kelly offers a set mostly composed of new material which shows off her remarkable versatility.

Her sax chops have been granted the imprimatur of jazz elders like Phil Woods and Lee Konitz, both of whom have recorded with her.

Tickets for this April 24 event are available now at the Hadley Union Building ticket office on the IUP campus or online at IUP Tickets. They can also be purchased by calling the HUB ticket office at 724-357-1313. Remaining tickets can be purchased at that door one hour prior to the performance.
