IUP Inaugural REACH Conference, May 20–23

IUP will host the inaugural REACH conference on May 20–23, 2014, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. This is a cross-disciplinary research and training conference and is focused on understanding, responding to, and prevention of violence and trauma across the lifespan.

Attendees of the conference will be exposed to the latest research and clinical intervention techniques in violence prevention from multiple fields, and will have many formal and informal opportunities for personal interactions with national experts in the field of violence education.

Keynote speakers for the conference include:

  • David Finkelhor, director of the Crimes Against Children Research Center
  • Ed Gondolf, former director of Research at MARTI (Mid-Atlantic Addiction Research and Training Institute)
  • Coreen Farris, associate behavorial scientist at the Rand Corporation
  • Nan Stein, senior research scientist at Wellesley Centers for Women
  • Victor Veith, director of the National Child Protection Training Center
  • Anthony D’Augelli, associate dean for Undergraduate Programs and Outreach at Penn State

For students to attend the conference, the cost is $100 or $25 per day. Undergraduate and graduate students are able to register for a 3-credit course that supplements the conference, and registration is free when students enroll in the course. The two courses students can enroll in are: Understanding and Responding to Violence and Trauma (for undergrads), and Introduction to Poly-Victimization: Child and Adult Advocacy Studies (for grads).
