15k in a Day Donor Challenge Smashes Expected Goal

15k in a dayWith the assistance of two alumni who provided matching gifts, 15k in a Day, a 24-hour, online fundraising appeal, raised more than $52,256 for IUP.

Emily Smeltz, IUP’s director of Annual Giving, said that a total of 230 donors participated, providing support for 95 different department or program funds. Their funds were matched by Ric Clark ’80, a graduate of Eberly College of Business and Information Technology, and Tim Rupert ’68, who serves as president of the Foundation for IUP Board of Directors.

“Our effort brought in $32,256 from various alumni, faculty and staff, students, and friends. They were motivated by Ric Clark’s generous offer to match the first $15,000, and, after his matching funds were claimed, Tim Rupert stepped in with another $5,000 for matching. We couldn’t have done it without their help. We’re grateful for their faith in our ability to make this challenge a success and for their contributions.”

The 15k in a Day drive invited alumni and other constituents to double their gifts from noon on April 2 to noon on April 3, 2014. Prospective donors were notified of the challenge through e-mail appeals and special messaging on Facebook and Twitter. Smeltz said that in addition to dollars raised, the campaign also was intended to raise awareness about the power of scholarships and general investment in IUP’s academic programming.

“I think this shows how much our alumni, employees, parents, and friends love IUP and are willing to jump on a fun effort like this one to show their affinity,” Smeltz said. “Thanks to all who participated!”
