Lopez Earns Top College Honors at April 2014 Undergraduate Scholars Forum

Vincent LopezIUP Punxsutawney student Vincent Lopez participated in the ninth annual Undergraduate Scholars Forum at the IUP main campus on April 1, 2014. Mentored by Lynn Shelly of the English Department, Vince presented “How Important Is Grit to the Success of Minority College Students?”

Grit is considered those personal attributes, both natural and learned, that enables a student to successfully persist through challenge and difficulty. The concept is most recently being championed by Angela Duckworth at the University of Pennsylvania.

Vince’s presentation earned him top honors representing the IUP College of Humanities and Social Sciences. He was awarded a $250 Dean’s Innovation Scholarship for his efforts. Vince was the only freshman student among the 380 undergraduate forum participants.
