Duo Pianists Perform “Piano Postcards”

Pianists Susan Wheatley and Daniel Perlongo are performing “Piano Postcards” on Tuesday, April 8, 8:00 p.m. in Gorell Recital Hall (free admission). The pianists will perform Perlongo’s two piano works composed for their piano duo.

Perlongo’s compositions focus on music to celebrate beautiful waterways—creeks, lakes, and oceans in Indiana County and worldwide. Selections include “Lake Breezes,” reminiscent of Perlongo’s homeland along Lake Michigan; “Windhover,” inspired by a Gerald Hopkins poem along the Cornish shore; “Tango around Cape Horn,” where the Pacific and Atlantic oceans meet; and “Ghost Town Trail,” a tribute to our beautiful rails-to-trails path along Blacklick Creek in  Indiana County.

Composer Daniel Perlongo is professor emeritus in music composition at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and has composed these works to perform with his wife, IUP pianist and professor of music Susan Wheatley. Perlongo and his music compositions have received numerous awards, including the American Prix de Rome, a Guggenheim Fellowship, the American Academy-National Institute of Arts and Letters, and the National Endowment for the Arts. His works have been performed worldwide by symphony orchestras such as the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Warsaw Philharmonic, and the Slovenia Symphony Orchestra. His published works are available from American Composers Alliance, in New York City.
