Lauber Appears as Source in “Self” Magazine

Self magazine, available in grocery stores and newsstands nationwide, recently used Erick Lauber (Journalism) as a source for its “What makes you tick?” self-quiz section (April 2014, pg. 82).

A brief, fun quiz designed to help women get motivated for self-improvement, the opportunity came to Lauber because two of his articles had crossed the desk of Associate Editor Zahra Barnes. After several consulting phone calls, Lauber was listed as “Source: Erick Lauber, Ph.D., Indiana University of Pennsylvania” at the bottom of the quiz.

“I’m tickled that an article I published on parenting, and a second one on the pursuit of happiness, kind of led to an opportunity to be referenced as an authority on self-help—and in front of 5.5 million people,” said Lauber. “I’ve been published in self-help and leadership more frequently than parenting, but it was certainly fun to work with Ms. Barnes. She was enthusiastic and curious, and I had a great time working with her on this self-quiz.”

An applied psychologist and now journalism/media faculty, Lauber writes and speaks on leadership and self-management for national audiences as well as Pittsburgh companies and associations. In the past few months, his articles have been published over 60 times in national magazines and journals.

As director of Leadership Training and Research for MARTI-IUP, Lauber regularly writes on leadership and will be teaching the Leadership class to the IUP Summer Scholars in 2014.
