Career Development Advocates (CDAs) is a program within the Career Development Center made up of undergraduate students trained by professional staff to provide career and professional development advice to IUP students.
The CDAs present career development topics, offer
feedback on students’ professional documents such as resumes and cover
letters, and participate in campus events to promote the Career
IUP students have attended drop-in resume and cover letter review hours (Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4:00–6:30 p.m.) at the
Career Development Center to have their materials critiqued by a CDA.
The CDAs have also conducted workshops for student
organizations, academic classes, and residence halls, covering topics such as
resumes and cover letters, interviewing, business etiquette, social media
professionalism, job fairs, networking, and job searching. Additionally, CDAs have promoted the
Career Development Center and its mission at the department’s annual Open House
(recently renamed “Goal in the Grove”), IUP Admissions Expos, the IUP Career
Expo, and the Six O’Clock Series programs.
This Spring, the CDA program expanded several of its current
services to continue assisting more IUP students with their career and
professional development goals. The CDA program is a fantastic way for students
to become involved on campus, to assist peers with their development, and to
advance their own professional development!
