Gittinger Talks About Practicing Hinduism Online

Virtual ritual practice on a smartphoneThe Department of Religious Studies presents Juli Gittinger, faculty member of Religious Studies at McGill University, Montreal, discussing “(Virtual) Ritual and (Virtual) Sacred Space: Practicing Hinduism Online.”

Her talk will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2014, in McElhaney 206.


Can sacred space be found online? Is the deity present in virtual ritual? This talk will explore the phenomena of virtual ritual practice in new media, and how Hinduism has negotiated these questions with the practice of e-darshan and e-pooja.
