Pittsburgh Pops: A Broadway Valentine

The Lively Arts will present the Pittsburgh Symphony Pops on Friday, February 14, 2014. The concert, titled “PSO Pops: A Broadway Valentine,” features Broadway singing stars Christiane Noll and Hugh Panaro and begins at 8:00 p.m. in Fisher Auditorium as part of the Ovations! series. Whether the perfect date night or a personal treat, this concert will be a stunning taste of the Great White Way’s hits, filled with love songs, ballads, and stirring instrumentals.

Fawzi Haimor, conductor for “A Broadway Valentine,” is starting his second season in the position of assistant conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Prior to his Pittsburgh appointment, he was the assistant conductor of the Alabama Symphony for two seasons.

Haimor has also worked with the Jacksonville Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, and Amman Symphony in the Middle East and, in Europe, Orquestra Sinfonico do Porto. In the current season, his guest engagements include Erie Chamber Orchestra and a return to Alabama and Jacksonville symphony orchestras as a guest artist

Fawzi HaimorPassionate about the education of young musicians, Haimor was the first music director of the newly formed Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra and was the founder and first music director of the Davis Summer Symphony, an organization geared towards the education and outreach of classical music.

Born in Chicago in 1983, Haimor was raised in the Middle East and the San Francisco Bay Area. He began playing the violin at the age of four and completed his training at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, Bloomington. He earned bachelor’s degrees in both music and neurobiology, physiology, and behavior and a master’s degree in conducting from the University of California–Davis before completing his second master’s in instrumental conducting at Indiana University. 

Haimor will conduct the musicians of the PSO and the two singers in a variety of music blockbusters from the stage and screen. A closing highlight will be music from The Phantom of the Opera, sung by Broadway’s current Phantom, Panaro.

Tickets are available in advance at the Hadley Union Building and online at IUPTickets.com. Tickets can also be ordered by calling the HUB at 724-357-1313. Tickets remaining will be sold at the door starting at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $16 for I-Card holders, students, and children; $32 for senior citizens, and $38 for regular admission.
