Wednesday Workshops Offer Hands-on Writing Experience

Are you working on a lesson plan or research paper? Trying to polish your resume or write a solid personal statement? The Writing Center’s free Wednesday Workshop series will cover specific kinds of writing and let students start or revise a piece of writing with individualized help from a tutor.

Wednesday Workshops begin at 7:00 p.m. every Wednesday in the Writing Center, located in 218 Eicher Hall.

Workshops will last about an hour. Attendance vouchers will be provided at the conclusion of every workshop. No appointments are needed—students can just walk in!

The workshop schedule is as follows:

  • Wednesday, February 12: Writing Professional Memos and Email
    Do you have to write a professional memo for a class assignment? Looking to polish your professional writing skills? This workshop will review the basics of writing memos and email and give attendees the change to start or revise a memo with help from a tutor. 
  • Wednesday, February 19: Do-It-Yourself Resumes
    All students need a resume at some point in their college careers – you might as well get started on one now or brush up the one you have. Attendees can bring a draft or start a new resume with help from a tutor.
  • Wednesday, February 26: Writing Lesson Plans
    Creating and writing lesson plans are a key skill for students entering the world of education. Learn how to create lesson plans and revise a lesson plan with help from a tutor.  
  • Wednesday, March 5: Writing for Blogs
    Writing for blogs incorporates many of the skills students learn in composition courses, as well as new media techniques like social media and search engine optimization. Attendees will learn the basics of creating, writing for and developing a following for a blog.  
  • Wednesday, March 12: Do-It-Yourself Resumes
    All students need a resume at some point in their college careers – you might as well get started on one now or brush up the one you have. Attendees can bring a draft or start a new resume with help from a tutor.
  • Wednesday, March 26: Do-It-Yourself APA & MLA DocumentationMLA and APA documentation are commonly used in the humanities and social sciences. This workshop will review the basics of both styles and how to create a Works Cited or References page at the end of a paper. Attendees will have the chance to work with in-text citations and their reference page with the help of a tutor. 
  • Wednesday, April 2: Writing Personal StatementsThis workshop will help you create a creative and original personal statement for graduate school applications, employment opportunities, and more. Attendees can start a personal statement from scratch or revise a work in progress with help from the tutor.
