In January 2014, Francis Allard travelled to Southeast Asia to carry out research on early metallurgy, and to
present two papers.
The papers included: ‘The Bronze Age of
Southeast China: Interrupted Trajectories and the Issue of Scale’ (at the 20th
Congress of the Indo-Pacific Prehistory Association, Siem Reap, Cambodia), and
‘Han Imperial Expansion toward the South and Southwest: Perspectives from
Archaeology and History’ (at the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, Hanoi). He
also conducted preliminary research for a long-term project designed to clarify
the chronology and processes of bronze production in the region.
He was also named to the editorial
board of ‘Asian Perspectives’, a journal dedicated to the archaeology of Asia
and the Pacific Region.
