IUP Emergency Services Training Offering EMT Course at Northpointe Campus

Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Division of Emergency Services Training will offer its 2014 spring Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Training program starting January 6 at the IUP Northpointe campus in Freeport.

This program is primarily designed for emergency management services personnel, but is appropriate for anyone who may respond to emergencies, including fire and rescue personnel, nurses, coaches, athletic trainers, or safety professionals. The course is certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and is approved by the Veterans Administration for benefits.

The course includes classroom, skill, and field sessions. Students must meet minimum physical capabilities of the Pennsylvania Department of Health. In addition to scheduled dates, students must complete NIMS 100/700 and HazMat Awareness through free online modules. Students must also complete 10 patient contacts at an approved site, which will require up-to-date immunizations and TB test, malpractice insurance, criminal clearances, and NREMT exam fee.

The class will be offered weekdays from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on April 26. Cost is $600, which includes the textbook.
