Fencing Up for Humanities Building Construction

The fencing for the construction site for the new building for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences will be completed at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, November 8.

The fencing is necessary to maintain a safe construction area.

Fencing of the construction area will mean that Grant Street will be closed from Eleventh Street to Pratt Drive. A portion of Clark Hall parking lot also will be closed, as will South Drive from Eleventh Street to the Sutton Circle.

Detour signs have been placed around campus to help pedestrians and drivers get to their destinations. Persons coming from the south side of campus, including from the parking garage, will be routed past Cogswell Hall to the sidewalk between the IUP Libraries and Fisher Auditorium to get to Sutton Hall and buildings in and around the Oak Grove and on the north side of campus.

Access to Sutton Hall should be made from the Oak Grove and East Porch entrances only.

South Drive will be open from Pratt Drive to the circle, and will be two-way traffic. For now, there are three temporary handicapped spaces in the Sutton Hall circle, but this is only temporary until the Sutton Circle is renovated.

Deliveries to Sutton Hall are being routed to the Oak Grove entrances. Reserved parking and handicapped parking along South Drive has been moved to the parking garage.

“We know that this is a change in routine, and we ask for everyone’s patience as we begin construction for our newest campus building,” Ray Wygonik, director of Engineering and Construction, said. “We will do our very best to communicate any changes in vehicular and pedestrian traffic and any disruptions to regular campus operations as widely as possible and as soon as the work schedule is confirmed.”

Communications will include posts to IUP Daily and to The Beak; postings to the Engineering and Construction website about the project; Facebook and Twitter messages as appropriate; and as needed, campus-wide emails.
