Morales to Talk on Day of the Dead in Mexico and Beyond

On Monday, October 28, at 6:15 p.m. in Johnson Hall, room 247, Harold Morales will present a talk titled “The Day of the Dead: an Affirmation of Life.”

Rather than a morbid obsession with dying, the Day of the Dead is an affirmation of life for those who prepare and visit alters beautifully adorned with colorful flowers, fanciful paper cutouts, decorated breads, candles, toy and candy skulls and skeletons, and photographs of deceased loved ones. This talk will describe the history, practice, and significance of the Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico and beyond.
