Center for Counselor Training and Services to Offer Workshop on Diagnosis

The IUP Center for Counselor Training and Services will host Jack Klott, MSSW, LISW, CSW, for a one-day workshop entitled “Uncovering the DSM-5.”

The workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center in Greensburg, Pa.

Klott has taught and lectured extensively throughout the United States and Europe on diagnostic issues, suicide, self-mutilation, and co-occurring disorders. He has written The Suicide and Homicide Risk Assessment and Treatment Planner (Wiley & Sons, 2004); The Co-occurring Disorders Treatment Planner (Wiley & Sons, 2006); Suicide and Psychological Pain (Premier Publishing, 2012); and The Self-Medicating Mentally Ill: Integrated Treatment (Wiley & Sons, 2013). He has also been honored by the Michigan Association for Suicide Prevention for his contributions.

In this workshop, participants will gain an understanding of concepts that motivated the changes in the DSM-5, including their impact upon certain diagnoses and the way in which diagnoses are made. Specific focus will be given to those diagnostic categories and classification that received the most significant reformulations.

More information about the workshop and registration can be found on the Center for Counselor Training and Services website or by calling the center at 724-357-3807. A discounted early bird registration is available until Monday, September 23.
