New Japanese Course: Anime (Japanese Art of Cartooning)

The Japanese program is offering a new class, ASIA 281-002 Anime, in Fall 2013. Students will meet 3:30–4:45 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. This will count as an elective.

This class utilizes anime (Japanese art of cartooning) as a means to understand modern Japanese culture and society. Students will study the history, artists, genres, and institutions of this art form to gain insight into popular visual culture and aesthetics in Japan’s post-war period. No prior knowledge of Japanese language or culture is expected.
