IUP Launches 2015 University Accreditation Review Process

IUP marked the public start of its Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) 2015 university accreditation review on August 19, 2013, with the launch of the IUP Middle States Accreditation web site.

IUP has held MSCHE accreditation consecutively since its first review in 1941. Accreditation review takes place every 10 years.

Planning for the 2015 review began last March, with the appointment of Laura Delbrugge, Provost's Associate and faculty member in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Hilliary Creely, Assistant Dean for Research, Graduate Studies and Research, as co-chairs of the Steering Committee for IUP Middle States Self-Study 2013-2015.

The Steering Committee, comprising faculty, staff, and students, began holding regular meetings in May.

Self-Study, the core of the accreditation review process, is a reflection by the IUP community on the university's strengths and weaknesses.

Throughout fall semester, seven subcommittees will form to analyze how the MSCHE Characteristics of Excellence in Higher Education (pdf) are interpreted at IUP.

Self-Study then begins, with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the community expressing their views on how IUP has advanced since its 2005 accreditation and where improvement is needed. A public review follows in fall 2015.

The process culminates in a report to be presented to the MSCHE evaluation team in advance of its site visit in 2016.

Throughout the review, the new web site will present resources, news, and event information for all those interested in participating in IUP Self-Study as well as a portal for committee members' work.

In the coming weeks, announcements about opportunities to contribute to the IUP Self-Study process will appear in IUP Daily, on the new web site, and in e-mail.

Please watch for these calls for participation. The involvement of the entire IUP community is vital for the successful affirmation of IUP's university accreditation.
