Writing Across the Curriculum Teaching Circle, Fall 2013

Like last year, a group of interdisciplinary faculty will meet monthly during Fall 2013 to discuss issues and ideas in teaching Writing Across the Curriculum.

These meetings are informal gatherings where those of us teaching or wanting to teach writing in our courses can openly discuss the teaching of writing with our colleagues. We hope you’ll join us this year! We’ll meet every few weeks in order to:

  • Discuss issues and concerns in teaching writing across the curriculum
  • Brainstorm assignments and lesson plans
  • Vent about frustrations and problem-solve
  • Celebrate achievements (ours and our students’)
  • Chat about anything else you’d like related to the teaching of writing

Whether you’re new to teaching writing or a veteran, this type of conversation will benefit all who participate. And, teaching circles are formally recognized through the Reflective Practice program of the Center for Teaching Excellence. You’ll receive a letter from the director of the CTE acknowledging your participation; you can also request that the WAC director write a letter for your dossier. This type of faculty development looks great when you apply for teaching positions, tenure, and promotion.

Dates and times are scattered to allow anyone to attend at least once. This fall, our group will meet in Nicholson Library (112 Leonard Hall) on the following dates/times:

  • September 4: 10:10 a.m.–11:00 a.m.
  • October 1: 12:30–1:20 p.m.
  • October 22: 3:30–4:20 p.m.
  • November 13: 1:25–2:15 p.m.
  • December 3: 2:00–2:50 p.m.
