U.S. Navy Gives Hibsman Flight of a Lifetime

Tim Hibsman on the deck of the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) during sea trialsOn June 7–8, 2013, Tim Hibsman, Department of English, was selected to be part of the Navy’s Distinguished Visitors program aboard the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) about 100 miles off the coast of San Diego. One of the highlights of the trip was an arresting cable landing and catapult takeoff in a C-2 Greyhound (0-120 mph in two seconds).

Hibsman spent 15 years in aerospace before beginning his academic career. It was a unique opportunity to see technology that was merely in the concept stage over a decade ago now being utilized in the fleet.

Hibsman, who teaches Technical Writing, is known for utilizing real-life anecdotes in the classroom—he now has some new experiences to show students the process from proposal to implementation.
