Eberly Students Represent IUP in Future Business Leaders of America Conference

Students at the Future Business Leaders of America conferenceIn a proud representation of IUP, four Business Education students within the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology attended the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) conference in Hershey, Pa., on April 14–17, 2013.

FBLA is a student organization created to foster the development of business leadership skills. More than 4,000 high school students from all over Pennsylvania attended this conference that tested their skills in business ethics, public speaking, interviewing, and technology.

“The event was a great opportunity for high school students to have some real world application for all of the things they’ve been learning throughout the year and to compete against other students across the state,” said Scott Mehall, IUP representative.

IUP students Matt Greene, Lora Roxby, Garrett Tanner, and Scott Mehall worked a table at the event providing FBLA students with information about IUP and especially the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology. These students served as excellent representatives of the university and role models for high school students seeking college information.

In addition, these IUP students assisted conference coordinators with the events’ judging and monitoring.

“For us, it was a chance to develop our professional skills and volunteer our time to helping students in our field,” said Mehall.

IUP is a strong supporter of FBLA, offering a scholarship to incoming freshman who are current members. Obtaining the business skills showcased in this conference is essential for success in college, internships, and future employment.
