Eberly Women in Business Leadership Program Motivates Students

An international entrepreneur, author, and speaker spoke to about 40 female Eberly College students about the importance of being confident on April 3, 2013, at the Women in Business Leadership luncheon.

“Find something you love, not someone, and do it,” Joanna Kortik, owner of Joanna International, said multiple times throughout the presentation.

Kortik is passionate about women living a healthy lifestyle and setting and attaining their goals in order to realize their dreams.

Students said they appreciated the opportunity to connect with other female business student leaders and learn to be confident in challenges they might face as females in the business world.

“Joanna Kortik did a great job addressing the challenges that females entering the business world sometimes face,” said senior Marketing major and event coordinator Catelin Shontz. “She offered us the advice of being confident in all that we do, from the way we enter a room to the way we present ourselves during an interview."

The Women in Business Leadership luncheon is one of many professional development opportunities that Eberly offers to its students throughout the year, according to Cyndy Strittmatter, assistant dean for Administration.

“It’s our goal for the program to become an annual event,” she said.

Kortik has spoken to staffers at the U.S. House of Representatives, companies, universities, organizations, and events in Europe and the United States.

She graduated from Texas A&M University in Commerce with a bachelor’s degree in health promotion. She also has her master’s degree in higher education teaching and learning and has completed doctoral coursework.

Currently, Kortik lives in Czech Republic and also has a house in Romania. She travels frequently to the United States to speak.
