Business Living-Learning Community Offers Financial Aid Workshop

A beneficial workshop about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) was presented by two students in the business living-learning community to eleven enthusiastic students on March 28, 2013, at 8:00 p.m. in Stephenson Hall.

The presenters, Kayla Mantini and Brandon Andrews, gave a PowerPoint presentation that taught about FAFSA and the importance of updating it each year. Even students who don't think they qualify for financial aid should fill one out, they emphasized.

Mantini and Andrews familiarized the group with the website where they can complete the FAFSA form, and the documents needed, and cautioned students to be careful to always use the “.gov” website to fill out their FAFSA.

Andrews and Mantini also discussed making a budget and how to wisely use refund checks. They encouraged attendees to sign up for FIN 143, Financial Wellness, to increase their knowledge of these areas.

“What made this program particularly successful was its applicability to all students,” said Mantini. “We were just reminding students to fill out the form and directing them where to turn if they had questions regarding the FAFSA filing process.”

To receive the maximum amount of aid, this year’s deadline is April 15, 2013. Any students interested in receiving financial aid should click here to fill out the form.
