Cimarron is the most accomplished llanera group from the plains in Colombia, South America. This seven-piece ensemble, led by harpist and composer Carlos Rojas, has been together for over 20 years performing the world over. The group explores and experiments with their rich heritage, retaining the essence of the music’s South American tradition.

This event is over.

For more information, visit Cimarron, e-mail , or call 724-357-2787.

Join the Latin folk music ensemble Cimarrón at noon this Thursday, April 4, in the Stapleton Library commons area for a free informal  question-and-answer session in the third and final Library Lively Arts Mary Jane Schafer Memorial event of the academic year.

The ensemble members will talk about their unique music and play two or three numbers as a preview for their Thursday evening performance.

Cimarrón is the most accomplished llanera group in Colombia and celebrates the sounds of Los Llanos Orientales—a vast plain of cattle country where the descendants of Spanish settlers, African slaves, and indigenous Indians live much like their ancestors did, within the lush savannahs that follow the great Orinoco River.

The seven-piece ensemble has been performing around the world for more than 20 years, was nominated for a 2005 Latin Grammy following the release of their Smithsonian Folkways album Si Soy Llanero, and more recently has been honored with an acclaimed showcase at the 2008 World Music Expo and the iTunes Rewind Traditional World Album of the Year in 2011.

Tickets for the evening performance in Gorell Recital Hall are available in advance at the Hadley Union Building or online (see details at right).
