There is still time to register for Abstract Acrylic Painting, offered through Community University Studies. This course is offered on three Saturdays from noon to 3:00 p.m. The dates are March 16, April 6, and April 20, 2013.
Immerse yourself in a painterly world of abstraction. Using acrylic, charcoal, and collage you will learn intuitive and expressive mark-making and techniques to allow “happy accidents.” You will practice color mixing and explore the qualities of a good painting. This class is designed for both beginners and advanced painters who wish to loosen up and try new things. Participants are responsible for their own supplies: a list will be given to them after registration, or the participants can choose to use the instructor’s supplies for a fee of $12.
The instructor for the course is Julie Bernstein Engelmann. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a B.A. from Barnard College in New York City. Her dramatic, abstract paintings in lush color and texture have won many Best of Show awards. Julie is a rostered ArtsPath artist represented by Gallerie Chiz in Pittsburgh and the Artists Hand in Indiana. A solo show of her work is featured at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Altoona, Januuary 18–April 20, 2013. See Julie Engelmann’s website.
