Walking is great exercise, and studies have shown that it reduces the chances of developing diabetes and heart disease. Experts say all you need is 30 minutes of moderate-level physical activity a day to increase health, and brisk walking is a type of physical activity. People who do not participate in physical activity are more likely to develop diseases such as osteoporosis and arthritis, and are found to not live as long as people who do engage in physical activity.

The winners of the Fall 10,000 Step Challenge said they enjoyed the challenge and they noticed improvements in their health. Laura Wilson, the female winner, said she lost seven pounds during the challenge, and it has motivated her to work out more frequently. Joe Sgriccia, the male winner, said he did the challenge to get back in shape, and he even lost some weight throughout the challenge.

So don’t wait, and sign up now! For further questions, contact Kelly Gibson at k.gibson@iup.edu (724-357-6251) or Andrea Miller at a.n.miller3@iup.edu (724-357-2630).
