IUP Symphony Orchestra Brings Beethoven and Big Bird to Elementary Students

The IUP Symphony Orchestra performed an educational outreach concert to over 800 second-grade students from around Indiana County on Wednesday, December 5.

Beethoven (played by Professor Joe Baunoch) illustrated thematic elements of his Symphony No. 5 with the help of a big yellow bird who (in this particular story) served as partial inspiration for the work.

The event, attended by students from four area school districts, was co-organized by the Indiana Area Arts Council, led by Rebecca Slak.

The next performance of the IUP Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Professor Stanley Chepaitis, is Thursday, December 6. The orchestra will join the IUP choirs in a concert for the general public at 8:00 p.m. in Fisher Auditorium. Tickets will be available at the door and at the HUB Box Office.
