Richburg is Invited Speaker on Auditory Processing Disorders

Cynthia McCormick Richburg, associate professor in the Speech-Language Pathology program, was an invited speaker in October 2012 at the Oklahoma Speech-Language-Hearing Association annual conference in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Richburg presented a talk on central auditory processing disorders entitled “(C)APD: Topics of Interest for SLPs and AUDs.” Her talk covered issues with the term (C)APD and ideas for management of the disorder. She emphasized a focus on the auditory deficits and functional behaviors, rather than on labels or profiles, and she stressed the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to treatment.

Presentations at state association conventions are important because they bring up-to-date, evidence-based information to practicing speech-language pathologists and audiologists.
