The Department of Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE) is pleased to announce the 2012 recipient of the Nancy Newkerk Scholarship: Allison Shumar.
Allison is a graduate of IUP and is a current SAHE graduate student. She has a graduate assistantship in Campus Initiatives in the IUP Center for Student Life and is the graduate student liaison to the Pennsylvania College Personnel Association. In presenting the scholarship to Allison, John Wesley Lowery (department chairperson) shared a quote from a letter of support for Allison which stated that she “has been open to every experience and embraced each new challenge and new opportunity to learn.”
Awarded since 1999, the Nancy Newkerk scholarship is awarded to a second-year SAHE graduate student who demonstrates outstanding contributions to college students, student affairs activities, the SAHE Department, and the broader higher education community.
The announcement was made, and the scholarship presented, on November 7, 2012. Nancy Newkerk attended the ceremony to share her experiences in student affairs and to congratulate Allison.
