The Lively Arts at IUP has released four additional short informational videos to add to the original video unveiled in early September 2012. That original video explains the wide variety of services and events offered the Lively Arts for the campus and the community.

In these newer videos, different activities are explained in more detail. Two videos describe ArtsPath, the Lively Arts long-standing tradition of expanding the performance experience into the classrooms. Another talks about the excitement related to seeing a live performance, with the final video explaining a special opportunity for area businesses.

“ArtsPath in the Schools” talks about the opportunities the programs provide to thousands of area students. Elementary teacher Sue Stitt and Indiana Area High School Assistant Principal Bob Rizzo give two specific examples, while Indiana County Commissioner Rod Ruddock sums it up by talking about the “blessing we have” right here in Indiana County with the Lively Arts.

“ArtsPath on Campus” touches on those opportunities provided to IUP students in a wide variety of disciplines. According to student Ryan Egan, “Lively Arts does a great arts outreach program. So, there are a variety of activities . . .”

“Experiences” talks about the benefits of coming to a live performance. In the words of one of those providing a description, Walter Gallati explains, “Aside from an entertainment event, it’s a social event also . . . Seeing something on TV, you don’t get an appreciation of the expanse . . . or being into it as much as when you are in the audience . . . You feel more involved.”

A final video segment has area resident and businessman Jim Martin discussing the Educational Improvement Tax Credit program. This program provides Pennsylvania businesses the opportunity to designate tax revenue to the educational activity provided by the Lively Arts. These funds go directly to providing arts outreach to area school students.

According to Lively Arts Director Hank Knerr, these short videos were produced to give the public a better understanding of what the Lively Arts does. “There have been a number of changes over the past two years on how IUP serves the campus and the general community with arts events, activities, and services.

“With nearly 200 visual and performing arts events annually and dozens of related outreach activities, we want to make sure that everyone understands that IUP and the Lively Arts continue to be the single most active presenter of arts events and outreach in all of southwestern Pennsylvania outside the Pittsburgh city limits.”
