It will be performed in Gorell Recital Hall, located on the second floor of John Sutton Hall. Admission is free.

He has appeared frequently over the years as solo pianist, concerto soloist, accompanist, and chamber musician. He spent 50 years teaching at the university level, 44 of which were at IUP, retiring in 2011.

Graduating from IUP in 1984 with a B.F.A. in violin performance, Richardson also holds a M.Ed. degree from the University of Massachusetts–Boston. Since 2010, he has been studying violin under Sue Rabut, a member of Boston’s Lyric Opera, Opera Boston, and Boston Classical Orchestra. He has taught in Brockton, Mass., for the past 17 years and is a six-time recipient of the Inspirational Teacher Award, given to teachers by students who have been accepted in the National Honor Society at Brockton High School and Southeastern Regional High School.

he last time Richardson and Staples teamed up for a public recital was while Richardson was attending IUP. In the 1980s, Richardson also performed numerous concerts with the IUP Symphony Orchestra and Johnstown Symphony.

Together, they will present a program containing the masterworks of Johann Sebastian Bach and Johannes Brahms. They will also perform compositions by Mark Richardson’s long-time friend, Bryan Burkett, and Louis Richardson, Mark’s father. This will be the first recital at IUP for this team of musicians.
