Cynthia McCormick Richburg, an audiologist on the faculty in Special Education and Clinical Services, has recently published a journal article on the speed of stimulus categorization in speakers who stutter.
The article, “Is Speed of Stimulus Categorization Slower in Stuttering Speakers? A Cognitive Event-Related Potential Study,” and appeared in the Asia Pacific Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing (volume 15, number 3, pp. 211-229).
Abstract
Auditory P300 event-related potentials were obtained to determine processing speeds in individuals who stutter compared to individuals who do not. The findings suggest that stuttering might involve “subtle cognitive deficits related to speed of information processing.”
