Maria, the Captain, and all the little Van Trapps will be seen on the big screen in Fisher Auditorium Sunday, September 23, 2012, as the Lively Arts opens its 2012-2013 Ovations! series. And in this version—SingAlong Sound of Music—you're invited to come in costume if you like, follow the dancing Edelweiss as you join in singing, and enjoy an afternoon of great entertainment. The event begins at 2:00 p.m. right after you buy some popcorn and get your free “fun pack."

Since its start in the United Kingdom in 1999, the SingAlong Sound of Music show has become a worldwide hit, with over 10,000 performances in nine countries. It's even filled the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles – three times!

Now, SingAlong Sound of Music brings its screening of this classic movie masterpiece to Indiana and will be hosted by San Diego-based actor, Stefanie Miller.

The afternoon begins with a live show in which Miller will lead the audience through a light-hearted vocal warm-up, judge the costume contest with the audience’s help, and award prizes for the best costumes. Miller will also give you suggestions on things to do during the movie as well as when to use the items in your “fun pack.”

SingAlong MillerWhile the audience watches this 1965 award-winning classic born out of the 1959 award-winning Broadway production, the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein -- and you, the audience -- will resound throughout Fisher Auditorium. To echo the words of ABC World News Tonight, “If you’ve always wanted to be a part of a musical, this is your chance!”

For those wishing to come in costume, a list of ideas is included on the Lively Arts’ web site. Ideas include anything from a nun, to a lonely goatherd, to a brown paper package tied up with string. Coupons are also available for 20 percent off a costume rental at Indiana’s Costume Shop by e-mailing lively-arts@iup.edu. Those wishing to rent a costume are encouraged to visit the Costume Shop early.

Tickets are available now online at IUPTickets.com or by visiting the Lively Arts. Tickets may also be purchased by calling 724-357-1313. Tickets remaining will be sold at the door starting at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 23. For more information, call 724-357-2787 (ARTS).

Tickets are $23 regular admission, $18 discount admission for groups and senior citizens, and $12 for students and children.

This event is funded, in part, by the IUP Student Cooperative Association and a wide variety of area business sponsors. Funding is also provided by individuals contributing to the Premiere Club.
