A paper by James Rodger, professor of MIS and Decision Sciences, Eberly College of Business, has been accepted for presentation at the DBS 9th International Conference on Environmental, Cultural, Economic, and Social Sustainability, to be held in Hiroshima, Japan, in January 2013.

In “Sustainable Economies and Energy Strategy,” Rodger explores a sustainable economic model that preserves positive dynamics of capitalism while improving collaboration between government and industry to engineer economic performance from optimizing return on national, regional, and local resources.

This new work draws on Smart Data, Enterprise Performance Optimization Strategy, coauthored by Rodger and J. A. George (Wiley-Blackwell, New York, 2010). Optimizing return on resources begins at the lowest levels of people representation and political leadership that are encouraged to address prescriptive tasks. They demonstrate application of collaborative government and private enterprise initiatives toward developing a sustainable energy strategy and policy, using Marcellus shale mining as a case example because one author lives in the region where this is a developing asset and is familiar with the instance.
