B.S.Ed. in Earth and Space Science Receives NSTA and NCATE Accreditation

For the second time in four years, IUP’s Earth and Space Science Education program has been reviewed and found to meet the exacting standards required for accreditation by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA).

This specialized professional association is responsible for examining science education programs across the country on behalf of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and making sure that all aspects of teacher preparation are being delivered effectively.

The Earth and Space Science Education accreditation effort was coordinated with the other natural science education programs at IUP under the leadership of Holly Travis, Biology, and with assistance from Mike Briggs, Chemistry; Ken Coles and Karen Rose Cercone, Geoscience; and Stan Sobelewski, Physics.

All four science education programs at IUP will now be listed as nationally recognized on websites and/or other publications of the NSTA and NCATE through the semester of IUP’s next institutional NCATE accreditation in five to seven years.
