IUP students from every major can schedule live online tutoring sessions with Writing Center peer tutors beginning in Fall 2012.
Online sessions are conducted using Cisco Webex, a Web-based conferencing platform that allows students and tutors to speak to each other and share their screens.
Students can share their paper with a tutor using the screen-share feature, allowing both people to view the document together in real time. The tutor can read the paper, provide verbal comments and suggestions, and help the student revise the paper. The tutor will share his or her screen to provide Web resources or examples as needed.
Communication is live and requires a high-speed Internet connection, a microphone, and speakers or headphones.
Students can schedule an appointment for an online session on the Meet Us Online page on the Writing Center website.
Faculty can request a brief in-class demonstration of an online session for their students. To schedule a demo, please fill out a workshop request form.
