IUP Writing Center Available for Student, Faculty Use

The IUP Writing Center on main campus wraps up for the summer this week and will re-open at the beginning of the Fall semester.

Last year, Writing Center peer tutors conducted over 3,500 tutorial sessions, face-to-face and online, for students from all majors and levels. Students visited the Center to work on class assignments, meet with a peer tutor, and attend writing workshops.

All Writing Center services are free, and no appointments are needed. Students can just walk in.

Faculty from every department may encourage students to visit the Center in 218 Eicher Hall for writing help. Sample texts are available for instructors who wish to include information about the Writing Center in their syllabi.

Writing Center tutors work individually with students at any point in the writing process. While they typically help students with revising and organizing, tutors do not write, edit, or grade papers.

Peer tutors respect the confidentiality of student visits; report forms are sent to faculty only upon a student’s request.

Students come to the center from many undergraduate and graduate programs, including Educational and School Psychology, Safety Sciences, Psychology, Food and Nutrition, Nursing, and Business.
