Keystone Wind Ensemble Performs in New York City

Sarah Cutler performs Torke’s “Wild Grass” with KWE at American Harp Society concert

The Keystone Wind Ensemble recently participated in a performance as part of the American Harp Society’s 50th anniversary conference, and also presented a concert at New York University.

On June 30, 2012, members of the KWE participated in premiere performances of two works featuring harp: Michael Torke’s “Wild Grass” and “Never Far Away for Harp and Orchestra,” composed by Bright Sheng. Sara Cutler, principal harpist with the New York City Ballet, and Yolanda Kondonassis, reknowned soloist and head of the harp departments at the Cleveland Institute of Music and Oberlin Conservatory, were featured soloists. Jack Stamp, director of Bands and chair of the IUP Department of Music, conducted both works, which were presented as part of the 50th anniversary and the 40th national conference of the American Harp Society. The Torke work was one of two world premieres commissioned by the AHS for the occasion and was funded by a consortium led by Stamp in conjunction with the American Harp Society and IUP Harp professor Lucy Scandrett.
