Christina Huhn, Department of Foreign Languages (Spanish), and Spanish Education student Andrew Erway participated in the inaugural West Virginia Spanish Language Immersion Camp, a seven-day residential Spanish immersion program, on June 27–July 3, 2012, at Cedar Lakes Conference Center in Ripley, W.Va.

Huhn acted as a group leader, working with students in a classroom setting, while Erway acted as a unit (cabin) leader, guiding students in daily camp activities.

Inspired by the nationally-known Concordia Language Villages, the camp provided participants an opportunity to immerse in the language, food, music, art, history, geography and customs of the Spanish-speaking world. Participants were challenged to communicate only in Spanish and will then complete follow-up activities back in their home counties, as part of West Virginia’s focus on increasing bilingualism and global awareness among their students.
