Accounting Major Awarded Scholarship from Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants

Dan Broadbent

Dan Broadbent has been chosen to receive a scholarship from the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Dan grew up in Indiana County and is a graduate of Marion Center High School. Previously, he earned an education degree from IUP and taught social studies and mathematics for several years, most recently at Highlands Middle School. In the summer of 2011 he returned to IUP to earn a second bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Currently, he serves as president of the Student Accounting Association. During his time as president of the SAA, membership and activity has increased dramatically, averaging over 80 students at meetings. The group has hosted a number of speakers, a resume workshop, two charity functions, and their annual Recognition Dinner, which most recently had 110 people in attendance, including 25 employers, 65 students, and 20 IUP faculty and administration.

Dan currently lives in Indiana, Pa., with his six-year-old daughter, Paige, and his mother, Erika Hennig. In his spare time, he enjoys running and playing recreation league baseball. He plans to graduate in December 2012.

Each year, the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) grants multiyear scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $15,000. Many can be renewed annually until the completion of a recipient's degree, provided each student pursues a full-time accounting degree, maintains a 3.0 or above GPA, and satisfies any other renewal requirements established by the PICPA. Applicants are required to be currently enrolled full-time at a Pennsylvania college or university and must have completed a minimum of 36 credit hours. Awards are given on a competitive basis to candidates that best satisfy the requirements of high intellectual capacity, leadership potential, financial need, and intent to pursue a career in accounting.
