Women’s Conference Workshops to Explore Topics from Stress to Smartphone Apps

Are you curious about meditation or yoga but hesitant to enroll in a regularly scheduled class? Do you wonder if Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn are for you? Do you need to exercise, eat better, or get organized on a tight schedule? Are you not fully utilizing your smartphone because you don’t have time to explore apps?

If any of these thoughts run through your mind, the upcoming Women’s Conference can help by offering a variety of workshops on these topics and more.

The conference, sponsored by the President’s Commission on the Status of Women at IUP, will take place Wednesday, May 30, 2012, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex.

In addition to the previously mentioned topics, workshops will focus on conflict resolution, ergonomics, stress reduction, body image, the sandwich generation, self-defense, working in the community, and wills, living wills, and power of attorney.

Ruth Modzelewski, Komen for the Cure Pittsburgh affiliate

In addition to the workshops, the conference offers a luncheon and keynote presentation by Ruth Modzelewski, mission coordinator with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s Pittsburgh affiliate. Komen for the Cure is a foundation dedicated to education and research about causes, treatment, and the search for a cure for breast cancer.

A two-time breast cancer survivor, Modzelewski will share insights from her journey—from a science nerd to a public health advocate.

A number of vendor/information tables will be available throughout the day. Anyone interested in reserving a table for $25 (cost is waived for IUP programs and services) should complete the Vendor Registration Form.

Conference participants may attend for a full day or just the morning or afternoon session. Both half-day sessions include lunch and the keynote presentation.

The conference is free to IUP employees, with the registration fee paid by division vice presidents, and $30 for Indiana Regional Medical Center employees, Spirit of Women members, IUP retirees, and current students. The cost for other attendees is $50 for a full day or $35 for a half day.

Register to attend the conference on the IUP Marketplace website. The deadline to register is Friday, May 25. Find more conference details on the Women’s Conference website.
