Student Accounting Association Holds Recognition Dinner

Accounting Department students and faculty gathered at the Rustic Lodge April 26, 2012, with accounting firms and companies to recognize students, professionals, and faculty.

Bill Richardson, a 1983 IUP graduate who works as a tax partner with Sisterson & Co. in Pittsburgh, served as the keynote speaker. Following Richardson’s speech, Kim Anderson, a faculty member of the IUP Accounting Department, presented Brandon Valasek with a PICPA Award.

“It was wonderful to see so many students, faculty, and employers at the Student Accounting Association Recognition Dinner,” said SAA President Daniel Broadbent. “I feel very fortunate to have a very dedicated, hard-working, and affable group of students to work with in the SAA. Our recognition dinner chair, Becky Soder, and the recognition dinner committee did a great job organizing the event. This dinner provides us with the opportunity to thank employers that support IUP and the Accounting Department. It also provides students with a unique opportunity to network with employers on a more personal level.”

Students were recognized for their contribution to the organization and professionals for their support of the Eberly College and the Accounting students. Sixty-five students attended the event, along with 10 faculty and administrators and 35 accounting professionals.

The firms and companies who attended are listed as follows:

Alpern Rosenthal, Becker CPA Review, Boyer & Ritter, CPA’s and Consultants, Clay & Gascoine LLC, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, First Commonwealth Bank, KPMG, Maher Duessel, Malin Bergquist, ParenteBeard, PICPA, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Schneider Downs & Co., Inc., Sisterson & Co., LLP, and Smith, Lewis, Chess & Co.
