Chalk-on-the-Walk Set for April 25

A 21-year tradition will continue on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, as the campus chapter of the National Art Education Association, along with the College of Fine Arts, once again presents the Sidewalk Commentary Contest: a.k.a. Chalk-on-the-Walk.

Chalk-on-the-Walk has become an all-campus tradition involving hundreds of students and employees participating, and several hundred more viewing, the dozens of incredible entries on the walks of the Oak Grove throughout the day.

The contest has always served as a vehicle for students to express their political and social views through drawings across the Oak Grove. As we face a wide variety of dynamic local, national, and world issues, this year’s contest will again serve as a unique outlet of free expression. We encourage all students and student organizations to participate as a class, a group, an office, or an individual.

No matter what your involvement, we do hope everyone, including community members, will join us in the Oak Grove on Wednesday, April 25.

Creation of the drawings commences at 9:00 a.m. and continues through mid-afternoon. Prizes will be awarded around 5:00 p.m. In case of inclement weather, we will reschedule the event. Any changes will posted on the Lively Arts’ Facebook page, through Twitter, and with signs posted in the Oak Grove.

We are also seeking individuals, organizations, businesses, and offices who would like to contribute to the student awards, which usually total at least $3,000. If you are able to do this, please e-mail Hank Knerr at lively-arts@iup.edu. We will acknowledge your contribution during the contest, but will wait to collect those pledges until after the contest is held.
