Senior Class Gift More than a Third of Way to Goal

The group of seniors working on the Senior Class Gift is pleased with participation so far but continues to seek gifts to meet its goal.

"We are a third of the way to our goal, and we are very encouraged so far," said Zack Stayman, who is chairing the committee. "More than a hundred seniors have provided their support for the gift, which will enable the class of 2012, when we depart campus, to leave a lasting contribution to IUP."

Stayman said the committee plans to support the College of Education's Outdoor Learning Center, located outside of Stouffer Hall, and the newly formed Sutton Scholarship (formerly called Academic Achievement Scholarship). The Outdoor Learning Center will provide IUP students a laboratory to practice science teaching to visiting elementary age youth. The Academic Achievement Scholarship fund will be used to recruit the best possible students.

"The Academic Achievement Scholarship in particular is an exciting venture, because if IUP can improve the quality of students who enroll, then the value of our degrees will increase. The Outdoor Learning Center allows us to leave the Class of 2012's name on a physical structure," Stayman said.

Seniors who donate $20.12 or more will receive the Philanthopy Cord, a crimson and gray adornment to accessorize their graduation gowns.

Deadline for contributing to the fund is May 4, 2012, for May graduates. See more information.
