Students Jones, Wirtz, and Barr Win at Northeastern U.S. Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Students

Three IUP students won awards at the third Northeastern United States Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students, held at St. Vincent College on March 24.

Senior Jazminn Jones won second place. She advances to the national finals at Pace University on April 7.

Senior Courtney Wirtz and sophomore Christopher Barr won third place.

Thirty-three students from around the region competed. Contestants were judged on Chinese language proficiency and talent and knowledge of China.

Judges for the competition were Professor Huili Zheng, Saint Vincent College; Professor Yueming Yu, Carnegie Mellon University; and Professor Rae Yang, Dickinson College.

The international finals will be held in China in July.
