Counseling Department Donates Supplies to School in Bhutan

In the fall of 2011, Lorraine Guth, professor in the Department of Counseling, was part of outreach effort to help establish the counseling profession in Bhutan, a small landlocked country in South Asia.

Lorraine Guth in BhutanGuth had an incredible experience working at Changzamtog Lower Secondary School in Thimphu, Bhutan. After she returned to the United States, Guth shared her experiences with colleagues, students, and friends in Indiana, Pa. As these individuals learned about the initiative, they decided to send gifts to help with the counseling efforts in the Bhutanese school.

Faculty members in the IUP Department of Counseling donated counseling textbooks that will serve as resources to the teacher counselors. The IUP Counselor Education Student Association purchased excellent counseling-related materials to be used for a variety of student issues such as divorce, anger, feeling expression, self esteem, and life skills. A local parent donated school supplies that were purchased by young children. All of these supplies can be used for many counseling-related activities.

The generosity of the IUP and Indiana communities will be greatly appreciated by the school community in Bhutan.
