An e-waste project put on by the IUP Association for Management and Information Systems (AMIS Club) won an international award for Outstanding Community Service.

The Association for Information Systems (AIS) formally recognized the winners of the student chapters’ excellence awards at the 2011 International Conference on Information Systems awards luncheon in Shanghai on December 6, 2011. IUP’s became a founding chapter in 2009 when AIS began its initiative to include student chapters. There are now more than 70 student AIS chapters worldwide.

“I was very proud that they were able to compete and win this,” said Micki Hyde, AMIS Club faculty advisor.

The IUP AMIS chapter’s e-waste project took place in Spring 2011 in coordination with the Recycling Center of Indiana County. Members of the community were provided a place to bring their old electronics and filled up two semi-trucks with electronics for safe recycling. The AMIS Club also initiated other service projects such as a food drive, which were considered in their service for the year.
