Indiana County Area Society for Human Resource Management Meeting Held at Eberly

The Indiana County Area Society for Human Resource Management (ICASHRM) held its February 17, 2012, meeting at the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology.

The meeting, facilitated by Mike Kosicek, assistant professor, IUP Management Department and attended by 22 ICASHRM members, is for regional human resource managers to interact with Eberly faculty and discuss current issues affecting the field of human resources. For the past nine years, Eberly has hosted one ICASHRM meeting each year.

The February meeting covered the following agenda items:

  1. "Eberly Corporate Relations and Internship Programs," including discussion of Business Day, scheduled for April 5, to which all ICASHRM members are invited to attend and interact with Eberly students.
    Speaker: Steve Osborne, professor, IUP Management Department
  2. "Taming the Two-Headed Beast: The Worlds of IT and Physical Security are Colliding." An overview of the dynamics of technology and its impact on information security and employee privacy.
    Guest speaker: Dennis Giever, professor, IUP Criminology Department 
  3. "Employee Privacy Issues." ICASHRM participants discussed their experiences regarding information security and employee privacy.
    Discussant: Fred Slack, associate professor, IUP Management Department

The meeting concluded with a Q&A, demonstrating the importance of the topic of information security as it pertains to ICASHRM member organizations.
