Spring Break 2012 Closing Notice

All university residential facilities will be closed and locked with I-Card access systems deactivated from 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, until noon on Sunday, March 18, 2012. Students are not permitted in the residence halls during the break period.

Note: University Towers and Wallwork Hall will be available only for students who have applied for and who meet specific criteria for break housing.

Residence Hall Closing

  • All resident students must vacate their room by no later than 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 10. All residence halls will be closed and I-Card systems deactivated during the break. Students are asked to leave for break as early as possible following their last class.
  • The following procedures must be completed by all residents before leaving. Rooms will be checked by the residence hall staff to ensure that these steps have been completed. The university assumes no responsibility for any consequences of failure to carry out these procedures.
    • Remove all perishable food.
    • Completely empty all trash cans.
    • Leave heat valves open and keep the thermostat in the on position at approximately 68 degrees.
    • Close drapes/pull window shades halfway.
    • Close and securely latch windows, turn lights out, and lock door.
    • Shut off all electrical appliances/items (except refrigerators) and ensure that no outlets are overloaded.
      Note: As an added precaution, it is recommended that all electrical appliances/items are disconnected from the wall outlets during the break period.
  • Food service is not available during the break. The dining hall schedule is as follows:
    • Foster:
      • Last meal served: Noon on Saturday, March 10
      • First meal served: Noon on Sunday, March 18
    • Folger
      • Last meal served: 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 9
      • First meal served: 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 18
    • HUB Rock Café
      • Last meal served: 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9
      • First meal served: 7:00 a.m. on Monday, March 19
    • Oak Room
      • Last meal served: 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 9
      • First meal served: 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 19
    • Java City Library
      • Last meal served: 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9
      • First meal served: 8:00 a.m. on Monday, March 19
    • Java City Foster
      • Last meal served: 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9
      • First meal served 7:00 a.m. on Monday, March 19
    • P.O.D.
      • Last meal served: 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9
      • First meal served 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 18
    • Eberly Café
      • Last meal served: 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 8

Important Information

  • The university cannot be responsible for theft or damage to any items left in student rooms during the break period. Students are urged to make special provisions for the security of valuable items. As a reminder, it is advisable for all residents to have personal property insurance.
  • Residents are advised that any necessary maintenance and/or custodial services will continue to be performed during the break period.
  • All residential buildings will re-open at noon on Sunday, March 18. I-Card access systems will be reactivated at that time.
  • The deadline to apply for break housing is Friday, March 2, 2012. For information regarding break housing, please contact the Office of Housing, Residential Living, and Dining at 357-2696.
